Oregon Police Confrontation Ends with Suspect’s Death in Salem Apartment Complex

SALEM, Ore. — A wanted suspect was shot during an arrest attempt late yesterday morning in an apartment complex near the 3200 block of River Road North after Salem police used force to arrest the fleeing armed suspect.

 

Armed Suspect Shot In Salem Apartment Complex

Two Salem Police officers pursued a wanted adult male suspect yesterday at about 11:30 a.m. The suspect, armed with a handgun, moved towards a residential unit in an apartment complex.

Shots were fired after the officers confronted the suspect, and the suspect was struck. Despite life-saving measures administered by responding officers, the suspect died at the scene.

The Oregon State Police (OSP) will conduct the primary investigation, as the Marion County Law Enforcement Officer Deadly Use of Force Plan under Senate Bill 111 has been initiated for the incident. The OSP will provide future updates.

The Salem Police confirmed that no officers were injured in the incident, but the names of the officers and the suspect involved will not be released yet.
