Oregon Providence Patients are Affected by Aetna Insurance Decision to Drop Health Care Provider
Insurance giant Aetna has dropped Providence Health and Services in Oregon from its health insurance network, impacting 9,000 patients statewide.
The Two Organizations Failed to Reach an Agreement on a New Contract
The decision follows failure between the two organizations to reach agreement by the end of 2024 on a new contract.
Oregon patients at Providence hospitals and clinics and with doctors insured by Aetna’s Medicare Advantage and employer-based plans now face exorbitant out-of-network fees.
The only other alternative is to source cover elsewhere.
Patients in Jackson and Josephine Counties Remain Insured Until February 17
However, Providence healthcare insurance holders living in Jackson and Josephine counties will remain covered until February 17, when an existing contract will expire.
Providence is switching its employees to health plans administered by Aetna starting in 2025.
However, Providence will remain responsible for covering the cost of employee healthcare, while Aetna will handle the administration tasks of processing claims and managing the provider network.
