Oregon Tech Rated One Of The Best In The West In 2025 College Ranking

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The recently updated rankings of U.S. News and World Report’s 2025 Best Colleges rankings indicate that the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT, Oregon Tech) has maintained its position as one of the nation’s top universities in several categories.

 

Rating: Regional Colleges In The West

Comprising the top baccalaureate colleges across 15 states from Alaska to Wyoming, the U.S. News list of regional Colleges in the West has been published annually since 1983.

The survey places the biggest emphasis on student outcomes, especially a university’s ability to retain students and ensure they graduate within six years. The data reflects criteria such as:

  • Graduation rate performance
  • Graduation and retention rates
  • Student Excellence
  • Faculty resources
  • Peer opinion
  • Financial resources
  • Social mobility
  • Alumni giving

 

The OIT confirmed that the rankings of undergraduate engineering programs are established solely by peer assessment surveys. An institution must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET to be included.

 

OIT Rated One Of The Best In Several Categories In 2025

Oregon Tech came out as the second-best public college in the West in ratings for Regional Colleges and Top Public Schools. OIT, founded in 1947, had a total fall 2023 undergraduate enrollment of 5,020 and is spread across a campus size of 305 acres in a rural setting.

The public institution ranks overall at #4 in the 2025 Best Colleges in the West survey. Tuition and fees are $13,260 in-state while out-of-state tuition and fees are $37,195.

Oregon Tech also rose 11 places in Top Performers on Social Mobility- a category that evaluates enrolling and graduating a significant number of students awarded Pell Grants and moved up five spots to the 53rd-best undergraduate engineering program.

  • Best Colleges for Veterans Category: #3
  • Regional Colleges West Category: #4
  • Top Performers on Social Mobility Category: #9
  • Best Value Schools Category: #9
  • Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs Category at schools where a doctorate is not offered: #53
