Oregon Woman Arrested For Neglecting Dozens Of Cats In Apartment

EUGENE, Ore. — A Eugene woman, 48-year-old Alyse Ninnette Edmonson, faces accusations of animal neglect after abandoning many cats and kittens in her former apartment complex after returning her keys to the property on August 21.

 

Cats And Kittens Abandoned At Eugene Apartment Complex

A caller to Eugene Animal Services (EAS) on the day the woman left indicated that at least 17 cats had been left by Edmonson at the property.

The apartment manager and Feline Good Animal Rescue helped EAS capture 46 cats and kittens before transporting them to Feline Good and Greenhill Humane Society.

EAS officers said there was no food or water available at the apartment which was found covered in urine and feces. They said several cats appeared to need veterinary care and were malnourished.

At a different apartment complex- near 1600 Olive St, Edmonson was arrested and charged with 46 counts of second-degree animal neglect on Wednesday.

There is a second suspect in this case. EAS officers said that 42-year-old Daniel James Thellman has not been found yet and asked that anyone with information regarding his whereabouts contact Eugene Animal Services.

 

Eugene PD Hiring Animal Welfare Officer

The Eugene Police Department is hiring an Animal Welfare Officer to help enforce the city’s animal ordinances.

The officer would respond to calls involving neglect, abuse, and abandonment, and deal with potentially dangerous dogs, stray dogs, and sick or injured animals. There is also much more involved. Apply here by October 27.
