Oregon Woman Dies Saving a Puppy On Highway 62

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — The Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to reports of a fatal pedestrian-versus-vehicle accident near milepost 13 on Highway 62 at approximately 7:53 p.m. on Monday.

Preliminary investigations suggest that 29-year-old Yesica Valenzuela-Quezada, known as Jess, of Eagle Point, was on the roadway attempting to save a puppy that had run into the highway when she was struck by a car. Valenzuela-Quezada was declared dead on the scene.

 

Eagle Point Woman Hit By Car While Saving Puppy

The OSP indicated that the victim chased the dog from a home out onto the roadway. She was hit by a Chevrolet Tahoe near the intersection with Sams Valley Highway where she died.

The driver of the Tahoe, 45-year-old Melissa Ann Marie Love of Eagle Point, was not injured and is cooperating with investigators.

The section of the highway was affected for about three hours as the OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) conducted an on-scene investigation.

Using advanced techniques to assess complex crash sites, the CRU, a specialized team, documents and analyzes serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Valenzuela-Quezada leaves behind her life partner and two kids and a GoFundMe page has been set up by her friends and family.
