Oregonians Turn Back Clocks to Standard Time on Sunday
Despite concerted efforts by Oregon, Washington, and California to make a permanent switch to either daylight saving time or standard time, Oregonians will have to set back their clocks one hour to standard time on Sunday, November 3.
Only the U.S. Congress can approve an end to seasonal time changes, but that has yet to happen.
State Bid to Change Permanently to Standard Time Remains Unsuccessful
Although the state does have the power to enact permanent standard time, its efforts have been thwarted by legislatures in both Oregon and Washington.
Oregon’s latest bid to end daylight saving ended in March but Senator Elizabeth Steiner – D-Portland, supports the bid, saying it will improve the health and safety of Oregonians and ‘make a difference for people whose religious practices are tied to sunrise and sunset.’
Today, most devices adjust automatically to daylight saving time, however, residents will have to adjust any traditional clocks by setting them back one hour to standard time when daylight saving ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday.
