Oregon’s Iconic ‘The Goonies’ Set for a Treasure-Hunting Comeback in Long-Awaited Sequel

The classic 1985 crowd-pleaser, “The Goonies,” is set to make a long-awaited comeback after Warner Bros. confirmed the ongoing rumor that a sequel was in the pipeline is true. A sequel in now “in the works.”

Filmed in the Astoria area, the iconic house where the main characters lived in, “The Goonies,” remains a tourism magnet for the Oregon coastal town.

In the original movie, a group of Astoria kids go on a treasure hunt to try and save their neighborhood from greedy developers, a theme that is perhaps even more befitting of the current era.

One of the top 10 greatest movies filmed in Oregon, “The Goonies,” captured the imagination and could now do the same for a new generation in the sequel. “Goonies” veteran Chis Columbus, who wrote the script for the original movie, based on a story by Steven Spielberg, and was also an executive producer for the original, both return for the sequel.

While it was reported that Potsy Ponciroli will write the script, the director and cast details are not yet known.
