Portland Man Faces Charges After Breaking Into Apartment and Attacking Sleeping Woman

PORTLAND, Ore. — A 39-year-old man who broke into a Portland apartment and assaulted a woman who was sleeping is facing multiple sexual assault charges.

Michael Lynn Moore, Jr. was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, second-degree sexual abuse, third-degree sexual abuse, and first-degree burglary.

According to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), the victim was taken to a hospital for evaluation and has since been released. An advocate from the PPBs Victim Services Unit has been appointed to represent her.

On Tuesday, 8 April, at 11.10 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a report that a man was climbing fences and balconies in residential areas near Southeast 30th Avenue and Southeast Schiller Street. Although the police searched the area, no suspect was found.

During the early hours of the following morning, officers responded to reports of a burglary at an apartment in the 4800 block of Southeast 30th Avenue. Officers were told that a man had broken into an apartment and assaulted a sleeping woman. He fled the scene when chased away by another occupant of the residence.

Using a drone and assisted by the K-9 unit, officers located the suspect and took him into custody.
