Portland Trail Blazers Get Solid Redemption Over New Orleans Pelicans – Game Highlights

After their heartbreaking near-win on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, the Portland Trail Blazers redeemed themselves solidly on Sunday at the Moda Center against the same team with a convincing 125-103 win.

In their first win of the season, the Portland Trail Blazers dominated on defense. They built a significant 59-47 by halftime, maintaining control over the game till the end. Highlights of Sunday’s rematch included:

  • In the first half, the Blazers played their best half of basketball to date after initially falling behind 0-8. Rookie center Donovan Clingan delivered two of the Blazers’ eight blocked shots and had 7 points with 6 rebounds in less than 7 minutes.
  • All five Blazers starters scored in double figures. Jerami Grant and Anfernee Simons scored 34 and 27 points respectively while Deandre Ayton added 17 on 7-of-9 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds.
  • Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said after the game there were great individual performances and singled out Simons, Grant, and Ayton for their efforts.
  • Former Blazers star CJ McCollum scored 27 points for the Pelicans and Brandon Ingram got 14 points and eight rebounds. Zion Williamson added 14 points on 3-of-12 shooting to the scoreboard after shooting just 4 of 15 for 16 points on Friday. Williams returned to the game from an illness a few days ago.
  • Sunday’s rematch leaves the Blazers at 1-2 after the two solid performances against the Pelicans, despite their opening-night disaster of a 140-104 loss to Golden State.

Anfernee Simons said getting the first win of the season felt good, especially against a very good team.

They’ll be looking to continue that trajectory against the Sacramento Kings (0-2) on Monday at 7 p.m.
