Portland Trail Blazers NBA Cup Contenders After Beating Sacramento Kings

The Portland Trail Blazers had a 9-2 run late in the second quarter that put them ahead of the Sacramento Kings on Friday night, where they remained to win the game 115-106.

Portland is now 2-1 in the NBA Cup West Group A play- behind the Houston Rockets (3-0), but are still in contention to advance.

 

Portland Trail Blazers vs Sacramento Kings Game Highlights

The Blazers played without Jerami Grant and Scoot Henderson due to knee and quadriceps injuries, respectively. However, six players, including five starters, scored in double figures.

The Trail Blazers led by four points at halftime, running off nine consecutive points in the third quarter to take a 72-55 lead and outscored the Kings 64-34 in the paint. The highlights of the game included:

  • Deandre Ayton, the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week a month ago for Week 6, had 26 points and nine rebounds.
  • For Portland, Anfrenee Simons recorded 21 points, nine assists, and five rebounds, closely followed by Deni Avdija, who added 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.
  • Off the Blazers’ bench, Dalano Banton had 17 points and five steals, Shaedon Sharpe logged 14 points, and Toumani Camara scored 11.
  • For Sacramento, Malik Monk had 29 points and nine assists off the bench, while De’Aaron Fox contributed 22 points.
  • For his 62nd career triple-double and fourth this season, Domantas Sabonis added 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists.
  • Jae Crowder scored 10 points in 21 minutes in his second game since signing with the Kings.
  • Portland shot 51.1 percent from the field, with 11 of 37 (29.7 percent) from 3-point range, holding a 64-34 edge in points in the paint. The Kings scored 44.9 percent on their shots, including 15 of 42 (35.7 percent) from behind the arc, with 20 turnovers that gave Portland 24 points.
