Providence Health Potential Strike: Agreement Reached With ONA For Medford Emergency Department

MEDFORD, Ore. — Providence Health & Services has reached an agreement with the Pacific Northwest Hospital Medicine Association Southern Oregon Providers for the Providence Medford Emergency Department.

Providence Healthcare Workers Agreement: Medford Emergency Department

Important gains were made in what was termed “a historic first contract. ” The Oregon Nurses Association said in a news release that the agreement includes a 20.7% base wage increase for physicians, significant pay increases for APRNs and PAs, enhanced shift differentials, and additional benefits for continuing education and workplace safety.

The agreement comes after a year of negotiations, with Providence Healthcare feeling the pressure of a large-scale ONA strike.

ONA said that the agreement shows the difference that respectful and productive negotiations can make, but this is in stark contrast to the ongoing strike by nurses at Providence Medford.

The association confirmed that these nurses remain on the picket line because Providence has failed to show them the same respect in their contract negotiations.

ONA said, “We stand in solidarity with the nurses, and this achievement serves as a reminder of what is possible when workers’ voices are heard and valued equally.”

Providence nurses have been on strike for a week, and the healthcare provider is still trying to agree to a contract with ONA for Providence’s nurses after almost a year of bargaining and several strikes.
