MEDFORD, Ore — Jackson County Commissioners approved a grant yesterday (Wednesday) to fund projects at the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport.

Grant Will Help Jackson County Meet Federal Funding Requirements

The $127,439 grant from the Critical Oregon Airport Relief program assists airports in matching requirements for federal grants and will help Jackson County meet federal funding requirements.

The grant amounts to 3.12% of the overall project cost, and Jackson County must provide 3.13% matching finance.

Jackson County must provide $250,000 to put its airport in line to receive a $3.8 million federal grant to upgrade infrastructure. The program supports infrastructure projects and emergency preparedness support with funds related to aviation economic development.

Money will be Used to Expand Taxi-Lane Access

The $127,439 will be used to expand taxi-lane access and construct a stormwater facility.

The $3.8 million grant will fund the construction of a bigger apron, further expansion to the taxiway, and hangar development. The funds will also be used for daily airport operation costs.

The project covers a portion of the northwestern sector of the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport located three miles north of downtown Medford and the third busiest airport in Oregon.

The 938-acre airport caters to residents of Southern Oregon and Northern California. It carries 43,000 aircraft arrivals and departures and serves over one million passengers annually.
