San Antonio Spurs Clinch Game Against Portland Trail Blazers In Final 2 Seconds

On Friday, the Portland Trail Blazers led by 17 points at one stage in the final period at the Moda Center in a nailbiting match that saw several ties throughout the game.

The San Antonio Spurs tied the game at 109 on a Jeremy Sochan free throw, and at 116, Jerami Grant made a layup to tie the game with 6.1 seconds to go. Unfortunately, he fouled Wembanyama in the process, and Julian Champagnie’s 3-pointer put San Antonio in the lead with 2:08 left. The final score was 116-118.

Portland Trail Blazers vs San Antonio Spurs Game Highlights

After four straight losses and sitting at 8-16, Portland faced San Antonio with the return of rookie center Donovan Clingan, who had missed several games after a knee injury.

With Duop Reath and Clingan, the lineup was reinforced, but coach Chauncey Billups pointed out earlier how injuries to key players like Deandre Ayton, out due to illness, and Robert Williams III, out for reconditioning, raised challenges for the Blazers.

After a second technical foul, Spurs veteran guard Chris Paul was ejected with 1:03 left in the first quarter of a highly competitive game. When Paul left, the Spurs went down to just ten available players, and the highlights of the game included:

  • For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama made two free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining, making 28 points over all 10 of his free-throw attempts, seven rebounds, and seven assists. San Antonio’s Devin Vassell added 23 points off the bench, while Julian Champagnie logged 19 points and Jeremy Sochan another 15.
  • The Blazers finished the third quarter ahead 88-80 after Jerami Grant had pulled the Blazers even at 60 with a 3-pointer midway through the quarter. He was 8 of 10 from the perimeter, matching his season-high for 3s.
  • Grant finished with 32 points, 22 of which he earned in the third quarter, while Anfernee Simons logged 30 points for the Blazers.
