Shoplifter Stabs Oregon Dollar Store Worker, Gets Bumped Off Bike and Tasered in Wild Police Chase
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — An alleged shoplifter who stabbed an employee of the Dollar General Store in Winston on Friday afternoon was ‘bumped’ off his bicycle by a police vehicle and then tasered by the arresting officer who believed the suspect had a concealed weapon.
He Stabbed a Dollar Store Employee When Confronted
After he was confronted about lifting merchandise, Andrew Snyder (30) stabbed an employee and then fled the scene on a bicycle. He was arrested by an officer of the Winston Police Department (WPD) who had to ‘bump’ him from his bicycle after he refused to stop.
The incident occurred at lunchtime when Snyder allegedly stabbed the Dollar Store employee after he was observed stealing merchandise, according to a Douglas County Circuit Court probable cause affidavit.
Court records state that Snyder allegedly refused to stop for the police and was eventually ‘bumped’ off his bicycle. The police vehicle was said to be traveling at between 5 to 10 m.p.h. Snyder fell off the bicycle and continued to walk away from the scene, ignoring commands to stop.
At this stage, the police officer tasered Snyder and when he regained consciousness the suspect claimed to be schizophrenic.
Court records reveal that police seized a pocket knife and a methamphetamine pipe following a consensual search. Snyder was taken into custody in the Douglas County Jail and is charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, unlawful possession of meth, and a parole board warrant.
The victim of the stabbing underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the WPD.
