Southern Oregon Homes Damaged By Trees Falling During Storm

Several people were affected by Tuesday night’s storms across Southern Oregon and Northern California, as roads closed and the storm caused several trees to fall.

Southern Oregon Residents Affected By Storm

Winter is the worst time of the year to do tree work as the ground is wet and the trees still have leaves on them, making them top heaving.

Will Danielson, the managing member of Advanced Tree Service and Landscaping, confirmed that these trees tend to just fall over and estimated their firm got a phone call every five to 10 minutes on Wednesday. Four crews were already out, and he was scheduled to be busy for a few days.

Jon Ivy, a Jackson County homeowner,  was having dinner at a friend’s house with his family on Tuesday night when he got a call from a neighbor asking if they were ok after a tree fell on his home on Arlington Drive in West Medford. Ivy said that, fortunately, most of the damage is external.

In Crescent City, northern California, Debra Campbell narrowly escaped a toppled tree. After her power went out at 8 p.m., she heard a branch snap. The tree made contact with her car and house, leaving a gaping hole in her yard.

With the help of her neighbors, Campbell removed the debris from her car, but this revealed the tree had severely damaged the back of the vehicle. She indicated that insurance companies had refused to insure her because of the size of the tree.

Campbell said the insurers thought the tree was dangerous and was close to her house, and- had it broken through the roof on Tuesday night, she could have died.

Danielson reminded residents that if they notice trees are starting to uproot, it’s important to call a landscaping service to attend to it.
