Suspected Salem Flight Deck Restaurant Armed Robber Arrested

SALEM, Ore. — Following a Salem Police Department investigation into an armed robbery at the Flight Deck Restaurant & Lounge in southeast Salem in December, police arrested Butch August Knupp, 40, of Keizer, yesterday.

 

Flight Deck Restaurant Robbery Suspect In Custody

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on December 10, a man followed an employee into the Flight Deck Restaurant. He pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the employee and demanded money. The suspect left with a large amount of cash. The suspect was subsequently identified as Knupp.

Salem Violent Crimes Unit detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Chemawa RD N in the city of Keizer, with the assistance of the Salem Police SWAT Team. During the execution of the warrant, police apprehended Knupp without incident and seized two firearms: a handgun, a rifle, and two replica guns.

Knupp was lodged at the Marion County Jail. He faces charges of robbery in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon. Any further inquiries may be directed to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
