One of the top 10 greatest movies filmed in Oregon, The Goonies, first released in 1985, is returning to big screens for its 40th anniversary.
‘The Goonies’ Events In Oregon
The Oregon-filmed adventure has attracted a lot of attention over the last 40 years, including a regular flow of tourists who flock to Astoria, where classics like The Ring and The Mortuary Collection were also filmed, to visit the house featured in the movie.
Fans gather in Astoria yearly to celebrate “Goonies Weekend” events, and this year, the city hosts a special 40th Birthday Bash on June 5-8.
Fathom Entertainment’s “Big Screen Classics” program is bringing The Goonies to theaters for a limited time. The screenings, which feature commentary by film historian Leonard Maltin, run January 19-20.
Chris Columbus wrote the Goonies’ screenplay, which was based on a story by Steven Spielberg, who produced the film. Richard Donner directed the movie, which follows a group of young people on a quest to save their families’ houses from developers.
They consult an ancient treasure map before setting out to find a 17th-century pirate’s legendary fortune. Young versions of Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, Jeff Cohen, Martha Plimpton, and Kerri Green star in ‘The Goonies.’
Tickets and more information are available on the Fathom Entertainment website.
