The Medford ‘Pantsless Bandit’ Strikes Again and is Now in Custody
MEDFORD, Ore. — The ‘Pantsless Bandit,’ aka Ira Ponder, was arrested in broad daylight at a Minute Mart in West Medford on Friday, where he was involved in a robbery and confrontation with an employee, losing his pants as he tried to escape.
The drama unfolded when Ponder (27) entered the store and was recognized by an employee. The ‘Pantsless Bandit’ had previously been banned from the store. Video footage shows the two in a heated exchange after Ponder was asked to leave the premises.
His Pants Drop as He Tries to Flee the Store
The video shows Ponder snatching a snack and energy drink from the shelves and then attempt to escape the shop, but the employee bravely stood guard in front of the exit. In the ensuing struggle, Ponder forcefully shoved the employee and then, his pants dropped as he fled the store.
Ponder is in custody at the Jackson County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on November 1 where he will face charges of first-degree burglary, third-degree theft, and third-degree robbery. He may also face charges of assault. Bail has been set at $20,000.
Long List of Criminal Activity
The ‘Pantsless Bandit’ is well known by local law enforcement with his long criminal record dating to 2017. Ponder’s prior offenses include charges of possession of heroin, first-degree burglary, and private indecency.
Residents of Medford have posted concerns for their safety on social media following the Minute Mart incident.
