Tragic Gresham Shooting Claims Life of Sleeping 13-Year-Old as Bullets Pierce Apartment Walls

GRESHAM, Ore. — A shooting in an apartment on the 4700 block of SW 11th St., Gresham, shortly after 1:30 a.m. yesterday turned deadly after gunfire sprayed through the walls, severely injuring a sleeping 13-year-old next door; tragically, the teenager did not survive.

The Gresham police officers who responded established that multiple rounds went through walls into a neighboring apartment.

Officers rendered immediate aid to the teenager who had been struck by gunfire while sleeping in the adjacent apartment, and medical responders transported the 13-year-old victim to a local hospital, where he passed away.

Officers also found another person who had been struck by gunfire a short distance from the shooting scene and took them to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening but serious injuries.

The East County Major Crimes Team is investigating the shooting, but- at the request of the family, the name of the deceased victim is not being released.
