Two Macy’s Stores and One Kohl’s Outlet Will Close in Oregon Within the Next Few Months
Oregon is losing two Macy’s stores and a branch of Kohl’s this year.
Macy’s in Hillsboro and Salem Will Close
The two Macy’s stores closing doors are The Streets of Tanasbourne at 2055 NE Allie Avenue in Hillsboro and the Salem Center branch at 400 High St. NE.
The announcement of the closures follows the death of other household-name chain stores like Sears, Neiman Marcus, and JCPenney.
The closures mark Macy’s ‘The Bold New Chapter’ plan to close 66 outlets nationwide.
Liquidation Sales Begin Soon
Liquidation sales for small-format and full-line stores begin this month and will run for eight to 12 weeks. Six-week clearance sales will begin next month at free-standing Backstage stores and furniture outlets.
Macy’s plans to close about one-third of its nationwide outlets – 150 stores – by the end of 2026.
Macy’s and Kohl’s are also shrinking as they battle for market share in fierce competition with big-box chains, digital competitors, and fast-fashion retailers.
Macy’s will now be concentrating on its high-end brands, planning to invest in 350 ‘go-forward’ locations, according to chair and CEO, Tony Spring. He described the locations chosen for closure as unproductive stores, adding that Macy’s would in future focus attention on ‘go-forward- stores.
Kohl’s Will Close its Portland Store
Kohl’s has announced that 27 outlets will shut down by the end of April.
It will close its Oregon outlet at Portland Gateway, 10010 NE Halsey St.
