Two Men Killed After Crashing Under a Jack-Knifed Truck on Highway 97 in Klamath County
KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — Two men died when their car crashed into a jack-knifed semi-truck in icy conditions near milepost 228 on Highway 97 in Klamath County last Friday, November 1.
The collision occurred when the white Cascadia Freightliner semi-truck driver, Gurvinder Singh (32), lost control of the vehicle on the icy road. He was traveling north when his truck crossed into the southbound lane and then jack-knifed near the Silver Lake Road intersection.
Oregon State Police (OSP) says that two men, the driver Leonides Jimenez Mendoza (24), and passenger Humberta Hernandez (43), were killed when their black Subaru smashed into and under the jack-knifed truck. They died on the scene.
The OSP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the accident onsite for six hours, severely affecting traffic on Highway 97. They were assisted by the Chiloquin Fire District and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
