Venezuelan Who Escaped from a Washington Immigration Detention Center Arrested in Oregon

Alvaro Flores-Barboza (24) of Venezuela will appear in the Portland Magistrate’s Court today after escaping from a federal immigration detention center in Tacoma, Washington, and traveling 150 miles north to Oregon.

He was arrested in Beaverton at 5.30 a.m. on Saturday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Flores-Barboza will face federal charges and could be deported back to Washington.

Details of his escape last Wednesday from the detention center are not known.

His arrest in Oregon was announced by the Seattle office for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to KOIN-TV, Flores-Barboza was arrested in the Portland area last year and convicted of felony use of a weapon and reckless driving.

The Tacoma Immigration Detention Center can accommodate 1,575 detainees suspected of being in the U.S. illegally or awaiting deportation.
